Preface
Energy, despite being one of the leading sources of the U.S. economy, has surprisingly not been mentioned as much in the legislation. Most steps to regulate energy sources have mainly been on the state-level, guided by Supreme Court decisions.
Energy Policy Act
The Energy Policy Act addresses energy production in the following sectors and areas: energy efficiency, renewable energy, oil and gas, coal, tribal energy, nuclear matters and security, vehicles and motor fuels, hydrogen, electricity, energy tax incentives, hydropower and geothermal energy, and technology relating to climate change.
Having passed in 2005, the act established federal programs on the topic of energy and water saving measures in congressional buildings, energy management requirements, energy use measurement and accountability, and voluntary commitments. On the state level, it worked to create low-income home energy assistance programs, weatherization assistance, and state energy programs.
